About Us

HKPA was established in 1965 and is entrusted with the responsibility by the Pilotage Authority for the delivery of safe pilotage service in the port of Hong Kong.

All our pilots are ex-seafarers with Master Mariner certification. They are at the very heart of our pilotage service. To ensure safe, quality and reliable and efficient service, all our pilots are duly licensed by the Pilotage Authority and are rigorously trained to competently pilot different types and sizes of vessels that ply our waters.

In addition to our core business in providing a safe pilotage service, we work closely with and provide our professional advice to the Pilotage Authority and the port community. Over the years, we had actively participated in numerous port development and infrastructure projects in Hong Kong. We also conducted studies and simulations for mega containerships prior to firstcall at Hong Kong. We are also the only institution in Hong Kong that provides training of marine pilots.

To ensure our pilotage service is on par with the International standard and to strive for continuous quality improvement, we have been operating under a quality management system in compliance with Rules for Pilot Organizations since 1998. In-house audits and reviews are also conducted regularly to ensure all our pilots are competent and up to the highest international standards in delivering a pilotage service that is not only in the best interests of the port community but also to the satisfaction of our users. Our service has from time to time been rated and lauded by our users for being safe, reliable and efficient vis-a-vis other hub ports in the world.
